8,000 British Students Invade Salou During Annual Saloufest

Over 8,000 british students, one thousand more than last year, have invaded the Costa Dorada’s tourist resort of Salou in what is now the 12th edition of the Saloufest. The British operator I Love Tour assures that “the Saloufest is the best sporting trip for English and Irish college students. This year we will offer more sports than ever and we are organizing the best parties and all the action you would expect from an unforgettable trip.” Many local residents have expressed their disapproval, claiming that “it doesn’t bring anything but noise and drinking” with the benefits going to a few bars and hotels. Local business owners and hotel associations are more than happy to accommodate the Britons given that it takes away the seasonality of the tourism sector. On April 6th the young students are due to leave again, so as not to interfere with the family visitors who traditionally come to Salou over Easter. On April 9th, after Easter, the next batch of Saloufest students are expected.
